Among the churches, merits a visit the Parrochiale Primitiva (Primitive Parish) dedicated to Saint Vincenzo, squeezed between the picturesque alleys of the village's most antique quarter. The most prestigious villa is without a doubt Villa d'Este, today transformed into the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este. The first construction was erected in 1589 for Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, following the designs of the famous architect Pellegrino Tibaldi. Back then it was called, the villa del Gàrrovo, from the name of the torrent that here flows into the lake. The complex was purchased, in 1814, by the Princess of Wales, who, believing herself to be a descendant of the illustrious Este family, renamed the villa with this name.
