Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone and Po rivers (the latter crosses the city from south to north), opposite the mouth of some Alpine valleys: Val di Susa, which connects the city with nearby France through the Frejus tunnels (railway and road), Lanzo Valleys, Val Sangone. Turin is called "the city of the four rivers: in addition to the three waterways mentioned above that frame the territory, we have the Dora Riparia which cuts the city from west to east, flowing close to the historic center. The Po river accentuates the division between the hilly and almost flat parts of the city, located between 220 and 280 meters above sea level; the highest point in the municipal area is Colle della Maddalena, 715 meters above sea level near the Vittoria lighthouse.
